Earth month is over, but living greener is something we can do everyday. It can be as simple as buying a notebook made of recycled materials or recycling a can. You probably wonder how buying a notebook can mean a greener life. Well, it’s simple. Every time we harvest a tree, fuel, water, and other resources are used to cut it down, transport it, and process it. When we use a product made with recycled materials, we save a tree and reduce the resources used to harvest and process it.
Some scientists think our climate is changing because of the things we do. By saving trees, we’re helping the environment. If one out of every ten middle and high school students bought just one recycled notebook this year, they would save more than 60,000 trees, conserve 25.5 million gallons of water, and stop 5,250,000 pounds of global warming gases from being released.
I don’t use more than what I need. When I gather food, I eat everything I catch or pick -- I waste very little. For many humans though, waste has become a daily habit, a habit that needs to be broken. At first, It might be hard to change what you do. But once you get started, it becomes a way of life. By changing your thinking and educating yourselves on how your actions can impact the earth, you can change the world, one person at a time.
Since I’ve been on the Web, I've found out that things I took for granted are actually very important. It’s the way I’ve been taught by my parents and their parents before them. To respect and protect the place we live. Think of the earth the way you think of your home. You need to clean and maintain it to keep it safe and comfortable.
On clear nights, I like to lie in the grass and stare up at the sky. The forest is dark and quiet, and except for the sounds made by the creatures that live there, all is peaceful. The trees around me sway in the wind and the stars and moon light the evening sky. When I find an empty can or discarded wrapper, nature’s beauty is marred. I become sad because someone doesn’t love nature enough to recycle. I pick it up and place in a pile for recycling. It’s up to all of us. The next time you go for a walk, pick up empty cans you see and put them in the recycle bin. When you shop, buy a recycled product when you can.
And, take a few minutes to appreciate the beauty of nature.
